America is in the heart

A musical adaptation of the semi-autobiography by Filipino-American writer, Carlos Bulosan. America is in the Heart explores Carlos’s life as he starts out in his rural home in the Philippines to his emigration to America in the 1920’s, as he faces hardship and seeks to secure immigrant labor rights. He is put down for his race and class, and struggles being in a whole other country when he had such a strong connection to his homeland. But he finds strength as a writer and finds company in the new friends he makes in America.
