Friday, December 13th @6pm

Norcliffe Studio at the Opera Center, Seattle WA

As part of Seattle Opera’s Creation Lab, we’re hosting a public table read of the librettos! We’ll have a team of actors reading off four 20-minute operas, so you'll get a sneak peak at the text of our projects before me and the other composers start adding the musical element.

The librettists have been doing some amazing writing the past couple months, and I've had the pleasure of being partnered with the amazing Grace Ward this year. We've spent a lot of time outlining and she's put some amazing text on the page. I'm excited to show folks what we've had cooking!

RSVPs are free through this link, so sign up and we'll look forward to seeing you!

June of 2025

Tagney Jones Hall at the Opera Center, Seattle WA

It's been a busy start to fall, and things in my life will only get busier from here. But I finally have a breather to say: I've been accepted as a composer for the Jane Lang Davis Creation Lab at Seattle Opera!

The Creation Lab is an exciting opportunity for Pacific Northwest writers and music makers of all genres to create new stories for the opera medium. I'll be working with a librettist from this year's cohort to create an original 20-minute opera. Over the next several months, we'll be writing and workshopping our piece, then we'll be putting it in the hands of singers and musicians in a public concert this next summer. All along the way, we'll receive the support of professional opera composers, librettists, and maestros to bring these pieces to life.

I am incredibly grateful to have been welcomed into this program. I'll be venturing into new territory over the next several months. But I'm excited to see where this road takes me and all the pleasant surprises along the way, especially knowing I'll be in collaboration with some talented people every step of the way!

Keep your eyes open when June rolls around. Final performances of everyone's operas will be open to the public, and I hope to see you all there! Outside of the Creation Lab, I'll have more updates on my creative endeavors that I'll be excited to share ;)

I'm excited to announce that I'm revisiting my first original musical, Buried Deep! After conceiving this show at the National Musical Theatre Institute and putting on a virtual production at Drake University for my senior capstone, this musical had been living in my back pocket for the past four years.

However, I found my mind straying back to this script and the themes of what we pass down through the generations. But my mind was also alight with themes of self-worth and expectation. Not to mention, my songwriting has come a long way since my senior year of college. So the time felt right to take the outline of this show and breathe fresh life into it to make it something new:

"Ruri is a Japanese-American woman falling short of every expectation and stumbling along from day to day. But one fateful night, she is roped into a feud between the ghosts of her ancestors: a noblewoman from the fall of Japan’s shogunate and a man interned in the US during WWII. Can she make peace with these two wounded souls, while making peace with herself?"

AAPI Heritage Month felt like the perfect time to make new ground. Over the first half of the month, I've been releasing demos of new and revitalized songs so you can follow the show's journey. We still have the second half of May and more material to release, so follow me on Instagram and Soundcloud to catch new music from this show!

There are a lot of new directions I want to take this show, I hope you'll tune in for the ride! To give you a sense of where I'm going, listen to the opening number below:
