New Songs - "Read, Brother"

Thousand Faced Theatre Company

A new song is available for listening, through my friends at Thousand Faced Theatre Company!

This song was inspired by the works of Filipino-American writer, Carlos Bulosan.  His semi-autobiographical novel, America is in the Heart, details his journey from the Philippines to the United States, where he fought for the rights of immigrant laborers.  Over half a century later, his writings and activism remain important in the narrative of Asian-American history.  “Read, Brother” depicts a young Carlos living in Binalonan, a rural area of the Philippines.  With his family living in poverty, his brother, Luciano, stresses the importance of learning to read and write.

Listen to the song demo on TFTC's newsletter here.

Special thanks to Sydney Crutcher, Peyton Johnson, Dina Perez, and Cece Sanchez for singing backing vocals!

Buried Deep - A New Musical

Drake University, Des Moines

"A mother and son live their stagnant and emotionally distant lives when someone bursts in with artifacts from their family's past. As these relics open up old wounds within their family, they must find a way to reconcile their identities despite the generational rift between them."

Music, lyrics, and book by Jeremy Berdin
"Buried Deep" will be put up as a staged reading by Drake Theatre People.

Thanks to support from Drake Theatre People, Buried Deep had a successful virtual reading despite campus closures.  With direction from Sydney Crutcher, accompaniment by Elaine Wedeking, and a wonderful cast, this musical has taken an important first step in its development.

This upcoming spring will mark the culmination of my vocal work at Drake University. Because my journey in theatre has taken me far and wide, I feel it's appropriate to cap off my time here with songs that capture feelings of traveling: Heading to, coming from, and leaving behind.  Come join me and a few other guests an evening of music during my last semester at Drake!

Special thanks to my voice teacher, Gloria Olson; and my accompanist, Elaine Wedeking; who have been supporting me in my lessons for the past four years!
